Lord Hall of Birkenhead has spoken for the first time about The Great British Bake Off's switch to Channel 4, describing the move as a 'great pity' that will leave audiences 'disappointed'.

The BBC's Director General said he was 'sad' the corporation would no longer show the programme but was 'delighted' Mary Berry, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc would stay on with the Beeb.
